As a textile designer I spend my working life translating trends into designs for commercial fashion and interior design.
Spotting trends can sometimes be difficult with so much noise and variety out there in the online world.
I like to start by absorbing as much as I can to get a feel for what’s out there.
Art, magazines, runway shows, Pinterest, Instagram are my go too for what’s new in the design world.
It’s a lot to take in so I like to look for what feels new, then what really inspires me.
I try to build a story in my head around each trend I’m working on, then I develop
colour palettes and key motifs for some structure.
Then I just get designing, it’s quite an instinctive process but one that seems to work for me.
At the moment I’m loving folk art from all aver the world, graphic florals and woodblock printing and I’m currently collecting ideas for some new work.
Creating is such a wonderfully absorbing and addictive process, so let’s see what I can come up with next.
